I’ve Got Something To Say

Mortality
I don’t know about you but the older I get the more I become aware of my own mortality. It is very easy especially in this seductive and sensual world to forget that we that are professing Christians and possessors of salvation can get caught up. We must constantly remind ourselves that this is not our home. We’ve got to remain cognizant that we are ambassadors of the Kingdom of God and we are just traveling through this land to get to our home.
I myself am praying for a deeper commitment to Jesus and be in alignment with Him and to draw a line in the sand with the things of the world.
I am not talking about being some kind of weird, non-sociable holy roller but what I am speaking of is making a public declaration as to what team I am on. For example, when football season is underway you can find on any given Sunday millions of fans across America wearing the jersey of their favorite team and making the argument that their team is the best and they even prognosticate that their team will be in the Super Bowl. I believe that we, disciples of Christ should have it clearly know and stated what team we are on.
In sports, we have a lot of what is referred to as bandwagon fans. You know, when a team is on a winning streak people will say “this is who I pick to win it all. When it comes to our mortality, especially when for some of us it is late in the fourth quarter of our lives we can’t afford to drop or fumble the ball. We have to hold on tight and secure our salvation. No player can be committed to play for or have allegiance to two teams simultaneously. 1 John 2:15-17 The Message (MSG) states it this way:
15-17 Don’t love the world’s ways. Don’t love the world’s goods. Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father. Practically everything that goes on in the world—wanting your own way, wanting everything for yourself, wanting to appear important—has nothing to do with the Father. It just isolates you from him. The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out—but whoever does what God wants is set for eternity.
